Few places pull me back time and time again. I can count on one hand the number of places that have that effect on me. One of these is Bluestone Resort in Pembrokeshire, South Wales.
We’ve visited numerous times over the last 8 years as our little family has grown. We’ve made so many great memories and hope to make many more there in the years to come.
But what makes it one of our family favourites?
A change of scenery
I’m sure some of you live surrounded by beautiful scenery. We live in a semi-rural area with great views out over the fields and trees.
But, I doubt many of us could boast the kind of scenery on show in and around Bluestone.
Located within the Pembrokeshire National Park, the resort sits nestled quaintly in the forest, overlooked by the Preseli Hills, a superb view at sunrise or sunset. A short car journey away are miles upon miles of absolutely stunning coastline, and with some of the best beaches, the UK has to offer you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The resort itself, considering it was built from scratch, is very quaint. The village is at the heart of the resort, and it feels like a lot of heart was poured into making it as welcoming as possible.
“Happiness is a state of activity” – Aristotle
The fantastic choice of activities, both on and off-park is what makes Bluestone ideal for family holidays. The resort itself has a lot of activities to keep the whole family entertained; cycle hire, blue lagoon swimming pool, activity centre, fairy trail adventures, bug hunting, canoe and kayak experiences, and tree-tops adventures.

Our kids loved both the bug-hunting experience and panning for gold at Camp Smokey. As they get older we’ll sign them up for tree-tops high rope and zip-wire activities – thanks to the brand new undercover Serendome area earlier this year they got the chance to try some high-ropes activities and caught the bug for it! So much so that we had to book them onto it twice!

The Blue Lagoon is a firm family favourite too, and we tend to visit two or three times a week when we’re there. The kids are obsessed with the Lazy River and we seem to spend most of our time there bobbing around, which is quite relaxing. I think in future years they’ll be trying out the chutes, and dragging Mum and Dad along too!
Good food, good mood
We love our food, and when we’re on holiday it’s even better if the menu has hearty, locally produced, tasty honest food. Over the years we’ve eaten at all of the on-site eateries and have never been disappointed.
It’s also rare for the kids to eat out anywhere without fuss, but they always seem to enjoy it at Bluestone. On warm evenings we’ll often sit outside at the Knight’s Tafarn, of course moving on to the fantastic neighbouring playground when bellies are full. On those days when the kids are tuckered out from a day packed full of activities, we’ll stay at the cabin and order delicious pizza delivered from the Oak Tree restaurant.
My personal favourite though has to be Camp Smokey. Sitting in the log cabin over the trickling river, listening to the water wheel tick around and the background country music, while tucking into a pulled pork bap.
And who doesn’t love toasting marshmallows over a firepit? Though we’ve had a few tears over marshmallows that have sadly been lost to the flames…
We’re looking forward to our next Bluestone adventure!
